Spring has finally arrived and once again Licking Memorial Health Systems (LMHS) is planning to open the Sports Screening Program for the Licking County Community. The program will offer screenings to all student athletes and band members, entering grades 7 through 12, required to comply with the Ohio High School Athletic Association sports physical pre-participation requirements. Students entering grades 11 and 12 in specific educational training programs at CTEC will also be eligible.
The program will include sports physicals, heart screenings, and baseline concussion testing. Heart screenings will be provided, according to LMHS program guidelines, as part of medical clearance for the pre-participation physical. In an effort to serve students who were not able to receive the heart screening last year, due to COVID restrictions, all student participants will receive the free heart screenings along with their physical this year. Students who may have already completed a physical through their school are still able to register for just the heart screenings.
Registration for the program will be open to the community on the LMHS website beginning in April. Parents/students can select a date from the calendar of available sessions to sign up for the day that will work for their individual schedules. The program is free to all participants; however, registration is required to participate. The program dates will begin May 4th and will end May 27th, with the first two dates located at the Pataskala Health Campus. Each scheduled night will be open to the first 60 individuals to register. Attached is a flyer for you to post at your school or handout to your student athletes with the details for registration. I have also included the Coaches Checklist, as a reference to your coaches, to know more about the program to answer questions received from students and parents. Once an individual registers for the program they will be linked to the packet of LMHS forms required to be complete prior to their appointment and the OHSAA pre-participation physical form. If your school utilizes a physical form other than what is provided by OHSAA (Priv-IT, Final forms, etc.), please have your athletes complete that form in advance to bring with them the night of their appointment; otherwise, they will need to complete the OSHAA form prior to check in. The program will be administered this year with social distance practices and masks required for attendance. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance for your support of the LMHS Sports Screening Program!
